Great and Terrible Travel Expenses

I have been derelict, dear readers, in keeping you all apprised of our recent financial doings here at Ridinkulous HQ. Truth is, it is very boring. When you’re on course for financial freedom, I find it easy to run out of things to say, and I’m very wary of repeating myself. But I just had to let you know about a great many terrible travel-related expenses I’ve had recently, and one unexpectedly valuable one.

This past weekend, we made a trip to New York City to see a special exhibition on Harry Potter and real historical sorcery stuff at the New York Historical Society with Marge’s parents. All was well-planned and all was smart. By using Amtrak points from the Bank of America Amtrak card (the most undervalued card in the points game, if you ask me) we got a free trip from Albany to New York. Plus, we used one of the annual free nights from our IHG cards to get a free night at the very fancy Barclay Intercontinental.

It was a great weekend of seeing Christmas decorations in the city, eating delicious food, walking Central Park, seeing friends over breakfast, and watching cable tv in bed (an impossibility at home (and yes, mostly Impractical Jokers)). Before our 3:40 Sunday train home, we killed some time walking the High Line Park, window-shopping Anthropologie, trying on Warby Parker glasses, and buying cake to eat on the train.
